Vitamin K2 and D3 Benefits: Why They Are Taken Together (Singapore 2026)

Short answer: The main benefit of taking vitamin K2 and D3 together is teamwork around calcium: D3 helps your body absorb calcium from food, and K2 helps direct that calcium to your bones, where it belongs, while also helping keep blood vessels flexible.

Both dissolve in fat, so take them with a meal. They are generally well tolerated at label doses, but anyone on warfarin or other blood thinners should check with a doctor first, because vitamin K affects how those medicines work. One way to take the pair is TIGROX HOMEGA, which puts 100 mcg of vitamin K2 and 500 IU of vitamin D3 inside a fish oil softgel.

K2 and D3 are now often sold as a pair, sometimes with magnesium, calcium or omega-3. Here is what each does, why they are paired, what to add (or not), the menopause questions and the side effects. We sell TIGROX HOMEGA, which contains both; where we mention it, we quote only its Singapore product page.

What does vitamin D3 do?

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form your skin makes in sunlight and the form found in oily fish and egg yolk. Its best-known job is helping your body absorb calcium and phosphorus from food, so more can reach your bones; it also plays a part in normal muscle function and the immune system. Living somewhere sunny does not mean you make enough: long days indoors, sunscreen and covering up all reduce it. Only a blood test shows your level.

What does vitamin K2 do?

K1, from leafy greens, is mainly used for normal blood clotting. K2, the menaquinones in fermented foods such as natto and some cheeses, is the form discussed for calcium: it activates proteins that help bind calcium into bone and proteins involved in keeping blood vessels healthy. Supplements mostly use the MK-7 form.

HOMEGA’s K2 is MenaquinGold™ vitamin K2-7, made by fermentation. Its page says vitamin K2 helps direct calcium to your bones, where it belongs, and helps preserve elastin, keeping your blood vessels elastic and flexible.

Why take K2 and D3 together?

Because their jobs connect: D3 raises how much calcium you absorb, and K2 helps decide where it goes. That is how our HOMEGA page explains it: omega-3 supports your heart and healthy blood flow, D3 helps you absorb calcium, and K2 helps send that calcium to your bones and keeps blood vessels flexible. Research on the pair as a combination is still developing, so think of it as a sensible nutritional pairing, not a fix for any condition.

Should K2 and D3 be taken with magnesium or calcium?

Magnesium: your body needs it to turn vitamin D into its active form, hence the popular “K2, D3 and magnesium” trio. Nuts, seeds, beans, whole grains and leafy greens supply it, so you do not automatically need a supplement; larger doses can loosen stools.

Calcium: D3 and K2 help you use calcium; they do not supply it. Start with food: dairy, calcium-set tofu, fortified soy drinks and small fish eaten with their bones, such as ikan bilis and canned sardines. Take calcium supplements on medical advice; more is not always better.

Does omega-3 help absorb K2 and D3?

Both vitamins are absorbed better with fat, which is the reason for putting them inside fish oil. In HOMEGA’s words, the oil carries the two vitamins: K2 and D3 dissolve in fat, so they go in with the fish oil, in the same softgel. Each softgel has 780 mg of Omegavie™ fish oil, giving 312 mg of EPA and 156 mg of DHA, plus 100 mcg of K2 and 500 IU of D3, taken once a day after a meal. If you take a dry K2 and D3 tablet instead, take it with a meal that contains some fat.

Vitamin D3 and K2 in menopause

After menopause, falling oestrogen speeds up bone loss, which is why vitamin D, calcium and increasingly K2 come up in midlife bone-health conversations. Ask your doctor whether a vitamin D test or a bone density scan makes sense for you. Hot flushes are a different matter: we are not aware of good evidence that D3 or K2 eases them, so ask your doctor about options designed for them.

Are there side effects of vitamin K2 and D3? Who should check first?

  • Blood thinners: vitamin K changes how warfarin and similar anticoagulants work, so a change in vitamin K intake can upset a carefully set dose. HOMEGA’s box asks you to consult a healthcare practitioner first if you take anticoagulant or blood-thinner products.
  • Too much vitamin D: it builds up in the body, and very high intakes over time can raise blood calcium, with signs such as nausea, thirst and passing urine often. Do not stack several vitamin D products without checking the total.
  • Calcium or kidney problems: if you have had high calcium, kidney stones or kidney disease, or take medicines that affect calcium, ask your doctor first.
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding and medicines: HOMEGA’s page asks you to ask your doctor first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking any medicine.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take K2 and D3 every day? Yes, daily at the label dose is the normal way. HOMEGA is one softgel a day, after a meal: breakfast or dinner, whichever you never miss.

Is omega-3 with K2 and D3 better than K2 and D3 alone? If you also want omega-3, one softgel that combines all three is simpler; if you only need the vitamins, a plain K2 and D3 product does that job.

Is 500 IU of D3 enough for me? That depends on your diet, sun exposure and blood level; your doctor can tell you, ideally after a blood test.
