Both are fat-soluble, so take them with a meal. The essential caution: vitamin K affects how blood-thinning medicine such as warfarin works, so anyone on blood thinners must ask their doctor first. If you want them with omega-3, TIGROX HOMEGA on our Malaysia store puts 100 mcg of vitamin K2 and 500 IU of vitamin D3 in one fish oil softgel a day (KKM MAL19096038NC).
We sell one product with both vitamins, so general facts stay general and anything about our product is quoted from our page. No study figures, ratings or customer quotes.
What do vitamin K2 and D3 do together?
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form of vitamin D your skin makes in sunlight; oily fish and egg yolk also supply some. Its best-known job is helping the gut absorb calcium from food, which the body needs for bones and teeth.
Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is one of two main forms of vitamin K. K1 comes mostly from leafy greens and is known for its role in normal blood clotting; K2 is found in fermented foods such as natto and in some cheeses. K2 is needed to activate proteins that help bind calcium into bone. The form most used in supplements is MK-7, which is thought to stay in the body longer than other forms.
Put simply: D3 helps bring calcium in, and K2 helps put it where it belongs. Our HOMEGA page says the same: vitamin D3 “helps you absorb calcium, and K2 helps your bones bind it for strength”.
Why is K2 paired with D3?
The logic is balance. D3 raises how much calcium you absorb, and K2 helps the body use that calcium in bone. That is why D3 products so often add K2. Research on the combination is still growing, and neither vitamin is a medicine for bone conditions; if your bones are thin, your doctor decides what you need.
Our page describes HOMEGA’s K2 this way: “Vitamin K2 helps direct calcium to your bones, where it belongs”, and it “helps preserve elastin, keeping your blood vessels elastic and flexible”.
Should vitamin K2 D3 be taken with magnesium or calcium?
Magnesium. The body needs magnesium to turn vitamin D into its active form, hence the common search “vitamin K2 D3 and magnesium”. Nuts, seeds, whole grains and green vegetables supply it; a supplement is optional, and worth checking with your doctor if you take medicine.
Calcium. D3 and K2 help the body use calcium; they do not supply it. Most people can get calcium from milk, yoghurt, tofu, sardines or ikan bilis eaten with the bones, and green vegetables, which is why many K2 D3 products contain no calcium (the “vitamin K2 D3 tanpa kalsium” search). Add a calcium supplement only if your diet falls short or your doctor advises it. HOMEGA follows that pattern: its per-softgel list is fish oil, vitamin K2 and vitamin D3, with no calcium.
Side effects: who should be careful with K2 and D3?
At normal supplement amounts, K2 and D3 are generally well tolerated by healthy adults. The cautions that matter:
- Blood thinners. Vitamin K affects how warfarin and similar anticoagulants work, so starting, stopping or changing a K2 supplement can upset a carefully set dose. Do not start K2 without your doctor.
- Too much vitamin D. D3 is fat-soluble and builds up in the body, so very high amounts over a long time are not advised. Add up the vitamin D from every product you take.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, children, medicines and medical conditions: ask your doctor first.
HOMEGA’s box asks you to consult a healthcare practitioner first if you take anticoagulant or blood-thinner products, and our page adds pregnancy, breastfeeding and any medicine. Our page lists no specific side effects, and we will not claim that any supplement has none.
Why add K2 and D3 to an omega-3 fish oil?
Because both vitamins dissolve in fat, an oil is a natural carrier, and one softgel can cover omega-3 and the calcium-handling vitamins together. That is HOMEGA’s design: each softgel holds 780 mg of Omegavie™ deep-sea fish oil (312 mg EPA, 156 mg DHA), 100 mcg of MenaquinGold™ vitamin K2 (K2-7, made by fermentation) and 500 IU of vitamin D3. In our page’s words: “Omega-3 supports your heart and healthy blood flow, D3 helps you absorb calcium, and K2 helps send that calcium to your bones and keeps blood vessels flexible.” The dose is one softgel a day after a meal, and a bottle of 60 lasts 60 days.
Is there a vegan K2 D3?
Yes. K2 as MK-7 is usually made by fermentation; D3 traditionally comes from lanolin (sheep’s wool), but vegan D3 from lichen exists, and D2 is plant-based. Check the capsule shell too. HOMEGA is not a vegan option: the oil comes from deep-sea fish and the softgel shell is bovine, so it is not for vegetarians.
