Peptides are generally gentler than retinol, and the two can share one routine. The peptide serum we sell, FEMOIRE Youth Serum, pairs a hexapeptide (the 3rd Gen Youth Peptide) with NMN and 8 types of hyaluronic acid, plus a rose quartz stone. Our price is RM239 a set: see FEMOIRE Youth Serum on our Malaysia store.
We sell a peptide serum, so this guide answers the general questions first and then shows where FEMOIRE fits.
What does a peptide serum do for the face?
Peptides are small fragments of the proteins that keep skin firm, such as collagen and elastin. In skincare they are grouped by job: signal peptides act as cues that encourage skin to keep up its own firmness, carrier peptides deliver trace minerals such as copper, and some are made for expression lines.
Expect smoother-looking, better-hydrated skin over weeks, not overnight.
Peptide serum for hair? Scalp serums with peptides are different formulas. A face serum such as FEMOIRE is meant for the face and neck.
What are hexapeptides, and how do they work on expression lines?
A hexapeptide is a peptide six amino acids long. Some are designed for lines that deepen with repeated smiling or frowning, such as crow’s feet and forehead lines. Peptides are fairly large molecules, so formulas often add a delivery system.
FEMOIRE’s 3rd Gen Youth Peptide is this type: our page calls it an anti-wrinkle hexapeptide from Spain, made for expression lines, carried by the LipoClear™ delivery system for quick, deep absorption.
Peptide serum vs retinol: which should you use?
Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that speeds up skin renewal. It works, but often causes dryness or stinging at first, makes skin more sun-sensitive and is used at night; pregnant women are usually told to avoid retinoids. Peptides are gentler and can be used morning and night.
- New to actives or sensitive: start with a peptide serum.
- Tolerant skin: retinol at night, peptides in the morning.
- Combining: add one product at a time, two weeks apart.
FEMOIRE’s key ingredients do not include a retinoid, and SGS tested it for skin-irritating ingredients: hydroquinone, tretinoin and parabens were not detected. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor first.
How do you use a peptide serum, and is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Cleanse, serum, moisturiser, then sunscreen by day. For FEMOIRE: a few drops morning and night, smoothed over your face and neck and massaged gently until absorbed. For targeted care, our page suggests half a drop for each crow’s-feet area or between the brows, 1 drop per side for smile lines, 1 across the forehead and 1 for the neck.
Peptides are usually well tolerated; alcohol and fragrance are the common irritants. FEMOIRE was dermatologically tested for sensitive skin: a 21-day repeat patch test, a barrier function test and a scarification test rated it mild, gentle and hypoallergenic. It contains no alcohol, steroids, mineral oil, colouring or artificial fragrance. Very sensitive skin? Try a little on a small area first.
What is in FEMOIRE Youth Serum?
- 3rd Gen Youth Peptide: the hexapeptide for expression lines.
- NMN: the youth ingredient named on the bottle.
- 8 types of hyaluronic acid: large molecules hold moisture in, medium ones improve the look of elasticity and texture, and small ones reach deeper to hydrate.
- Calming VIO: 10 herbal extracts including centella asiatica and aloe vera.
See the box for the full ingredient list. Our page says the serum fights wrinkles and expression lines and repairs the skin barrier, with visible results in 28 days. Each 30 ml set, with the Rose Beauty Stone, lasts about a month.
What is NMN, and what is it good for?
NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) is a molecule made from vitamin B3 that the body turns into NAD+, a coenzyme cells use to make energy. NAD+ levels are commonly reported to fall with age, hence NMN in anti-ageing care. Most research looks at oral NMN and is still early, so be wary of big promises.
Can you get NMN naturally? Only in traces: edamame, broccoli, cabbage, cucumber and avocado contain small amounts, and the body also makes it from vitamin B3 in everyday foods.
NMN vs NAD+: not the same. NMN is a building block; NAD+ is what the body makes from it.
Topical vs oral NMN: a supplement is swallowed; NMN in a serum stays on the skin, as one part of a cosmetic formula. In FEMOIRE, our page describes NMN as the ingredient for skin that looks brighter, smoother and more youthful.
NMN serum questions: microneedling, FDA, halal and realistic results
With microneedling: needling opens tiny channels, so anything applied goes deeper and may sting; on freshly needled skin use only what your practitioner gives you. Our page gives no microneedling directions: FEMOIRE is for external use only; avoid the eyes and stop if irritation occurs.
Is NMN FDA-approved? The US FDA does not pre-approve cosmetics, and no regulator approves NMN as a medicine for ageing. FEMOIRE Youth Serum is a cosmetic for external use.
Halal? It depends on each product’s certificate. FEMOIRE Youth Serum is certified halal by JAKIM.
Does NMN make you look younger? On its own, unproven. For the whole FEMOIRE formula, our page’s timeline: in week 1 skin feels plumper and softer and fine lines look less deep; by day 28 (set 1) wrinkles look visibly smoother and skin looks firmer, lifted and brighter. Results vary from person to person.
